At my internship this past week, I learned about music-editing softwares. I worked with one of KUFO's deejays, Yukon, and he showed me how to use different software programs such as Adobe Audition and Windows Media Player. In particular, I learned how to convert files to MP3, save them to the server, open the song in Audition and apply effects to the particular song. It was interesting because I actually got to apply effects to parts of the song where there was cussing. I had to find the precise part in the song and apply different effects to that section so that the end result did not include the swearing, but that it still sounded OK. It took me a while to learn this, but I actually got compliments about my work in the end!

Here at Linfield, I am taking Broadcast Practices and have learned that we are not allowed to play certain songs if there are swear words in them. I can understand that even more so now because the process of going through each song and finding each swear word is time consuming and tedious. But then again, now I know how it's done! :)

So far I have really been enjoying my accounting internship at Acumen Financial Group. It is about in the middle of busy season and work is starting to come in large batches. It was nice to have the opportunity to work some before busy season began in full swing to learn the software programs and familiarize myself again with tax returns because it has been a year since I did my other tax internship. I have been working about part time, which sometimes taking a full course load and working that much can be difficult, but having both doesn't make me as burnt out at school, particularly as a senior. On Friday I did have a proud moment when I was working on a client with hundreds of thousands of gambling winnings and losses, and I had to figure out what was taxable. I researched it on our tax research site and figured it out without having spent too much time looking for it. I was happy to have learned something new that day and know I can work through problems on my own. I am keeping busy and look forward to another week!

KUFO Internship

Hello everyone,

My name is Keyra Loo, and I am a senior majoring in mass communication. I have just started interning with KUFO Porland's Rock radio station in the Promotions Department. My main responsibility at the station is to help the promotions director with anything/everything that has to be done that interns can help with. For example, making phone calls to listeners, retrieving albums from the station's library to be played on air, working with KUFO's strike team with street sales as well as promoting events. My first event was at the Castle Megastore to promote Ron Jeremy's appearance there. It was an interesting first event - to say the least! At the event, I was responsible for putting up KUFO banners, interacting with the people who showed up for the event and giving away free prizes from KUFO.

I am looking forward to promoting other events/concerts as well as interacting with the people who work at the station!

Working and studying at the same time is not easy!

As school starts a week already, I'm now both working and studying at the same time. And it's been quite difficult to handle all the work load. I've been used to the AP side of accounting. I can process all the invoices, run the check and liaise with different departments in the museum.

However, as the auditing is coming soon, there are so many things to be taken care of. My supervisor as staff accountant of the company has to prepare all types of documents and reports. Therefore, I need to be responsible for invoices myself, and also do extra projects for the finance department. I can see how busy tax and auditing season is. I hope that I'll get used to the work more so that I can do my tasks more efficiently!

The last week of my internship I got to learn a lot about espionage and terrorist threats to the site. Even though security is very tight on the site, (i.e. laser sensors, hand geometry, voice recognition, and clearing checkpoints) there is an ever present threat of espionage. I learned a lot about how, even today, spies for different countries try to infiltrate the Hanford system and get a hold of technology as well as plutonium.
